Photo: People with disability, families, carers and industry representatives join paramedics to discuss accessibility
On 22 November 2018 AV6K成人网 hosted a Community Discussion Forum to help guide the development of our first Accessibility Action Plan.
50 representatives attended the forum including people with a lived experience, carers, advocates, peak organisations, service providers, State & Local Government and AV6K成人网 paramedics.
Comments and ideas shared on the day included:
鈥淚t鈥檚 ok to sit with uncertainty and be guided by those around you. AV paramedics don鈥檛 need to understand every condition and disability they just need to recognise and value engaging with the patient, family and carers who can guide them.鈥�
鈥淣ot only the obvious. It鈥檚 the hidden disability. You wouldn鈥檛 know. I have speech issues and have to be understood when stressed 鈥� I can鈥檛 get it out.鈥�
鈥淐ommunity members could be invited to their local ambulance branch. To help understand about paramedics and the vehicle so that in an emergency there is less of a fear factor.鈥�
鈥淎V6K成人网 could host monthly meetings where organisations could present and attend annual disability network conferences. Invite people with disability to be involved in training paramedics鈥�
The conversation was meaningful and personal and there were some great ideas from all participants who spoke freely and openly about their experiences.
